No, not me you’ll be disappointed glad to hear, but this blog – it’s the fourth CSS Naked Day
today, the annual event from the Gok Wan of web standards, Dustin Diaz
. I’m de-robing this blog for the first time to show my support, and to demonstrate that while far from pretty, the site should still at least be usable.
What is CSS Naked Day?
It’s a way of showing that behind all those gorgeous web designs out there, there should be good, clean semantic markup so your site can be read and understood by as wide an audience as possible. As Diaz explains:
The idea behind this event is to promote Web Standards. Plain and simple. This includes proper use of (x)html, semantic markup, a good hierarchy structure, and of course, a good ‘ol play on words. It’s time to show off your <body>.
I had considered kindly stripping the CSS from all my clients’ sites for the day, but decided that probably wasn’t the best idea. Maybe next year.
Of course if you’re reading this after 9 April then none of this means much at all – the site looks the same as it always did. You’ll just have to come back next April to see what a difference it makes…
Yeah – you got me! LOL.
