Thanks Ian, glad it’s working for you. I’ve pretty much given up on the WP form plugins and build all forms myself now, but if I need to use CF7 again in the future I’ll be sure to use the advice in these comments to get it working.

Thanks very much Andy for kicking this off and Lyz for your comments. You have both been a big help.

I encountered the same problem building a client’s website hosted on Fasthost. I am using Contact Form 7. Here is how I fixed it:

1. Ensure that the “From” email address in the CF7 “Mail” form has the website URL in it. e.g. info@yourwebsite.com.

2. Install WP-Mail-SMTP as Lyz recommended and followed her configuration instructions

“The user that the webserver runs as should be added as a trusted user to the sendmail configuration to prevent a ‘X-Warning’ header from being added to the message when the envelope sender (-f) is set using this method.”
Then you say “Find and dandy”, but I don’t think you’ve edited /etc/mail/truster-users have you, to set the user? In other words “Fine and dandy” doesn’t mean anything if you haven’t explained how (or if) you set the correct user in trusted-users.

Has anyone managed to get Contact Form 7 to work on fasthosts? The form says it has sent but the email never comes. Fasthost support are of no use. The From and To fields are the same Fasthost hosted domain.

I added the firth parameter to line approx 363 of classes.php as suggested by the author. But this doesn’t seem to work. This line seemed to be the most obvious place, although it is slightly different form the example given.

I’ve have tried installing WP-MAIL-SMTP and HGK-SMTP, but with those installed Contact Form 7 doesn’t even sent the message it just errors.

I tried “Mike Cherim’s WordPress-ready Contact Form plugin” that the author suggest but that just errors when I try and open the configuration page.

@Lyz what plugin do you end up using?

I don’t have any problems with Contact Form 7 of any other wordpress installation hosted with other hosts.

@anthony I’ve been called many things, but rarely an expert! Dude, you flatter me, so yes go ahead and send it – email address is on the contact page.

Only send it if you’re having grief on a Fasthosts server, if Fasthosts isn’t your host and the problem’s to do with something else with PHP then I’ll tell you now, I’m not your man…

Thanks for posting this info. I have just started web development.

I have just completed a site for a client and am having such problems with a form.

I am determoined to make it work without having to buy in a formbuilder (maybe it is less hassle though?).

Can you help me with my form if I send you the page?

OK I’ve fixed the contact form problem and here’s what you need to do:

1. get the plug-in WP-MAIL-SMTP http://www.callum-macdonald.com/code/wp-mail-smtp/

2. change the plug-in settings so ‘from email’ is an email on your blog’s domain

3. check the radio button ‘Send all WordPress emails via SMTP’

4. type smtp.fasthosts.co.uk into the smtp host field

It’s worked for me when nothing else has so hope it prevents someone else tearing their hair out

@Lyz I’ve had issues with 404 pages too – still have them. I found others on the wordpress forum with similar issues, and from what I can gather it’s to do with the htaccess file and Apache, though exactly what I’m not sure. It’s another of those things that, with Fasthosts, you end up learning to live with. Which is all wrong, really.
